WSQK 94.5 FM, also known as "The Squawk," is a fictional radio station in the town of Hawkins, Indiana, featured in the Netflix series Stranger Things.
It serves as a cover for Robin Buckley and Steve Harrington to broadcast information related to military operations and resistance efforts against the Upside Down, using the Morning Squawk segment as a decoy.
The station's design was inspired by a real art-deco radio building in North Carolina, located near the childhood homes of the Duffer Brothers, the show's creators.
In a promotional effort for Season 5, Netflix and UK-based radio company Global launched an interactive, real-world version of WSQK as a pop-up online radio station.
This immersive experience broadcasts non-stop 1980s hits and features fictional DJs Vance Goodman and Mindy Flare, whose names are believed to be anagrams of "Vecna" and "Mind Flayer," respectively.
The station operates on a schedule based in GMT (UK time) and was active from late November 2025 through January 1, 2026.
Listeners can tune in via platforms such as Global Player, TuneIn, Apple Music, Alexa, and 94.5 DAB.
The broadcasts include various segments such as "Talk to Tammy," which offers dating advice from real UK callers, "Rewind at 9," where listeners guess songs, and "Dial-A-Dedication," allowing fans to send messages.
The station also features "Hawkins News" updates, which contain cryptic messages and Easter eggs related to the show’s storyline, including references to the Upside Down, the construction of the WSQK radio tower, and mysterious illnesses among the Hawkins High basketball team.
Additionally, the station occasionally plays songs with hidden messages, such as lyrics warning listeners to "get out while you still can" or "escape," and includes Morse code snippets and distorted voices that suggest interference from otherworldly sources.
The real-world WSQK experience was designed to deepen audience engagement with the Stranger Things universe, blending fiction with interactive media and hinting at the show’s final season’s themes of resistance, music, and psychic warfare.
