08/10/2024 – H.E. Mr. Bob Rae, President of the 2025 Session of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), addressed the Seventh High-level Forum of the United Nations Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM) on 8 October 2024.

Ambassador Rae emphasized the critical role of geospatial information in advancing sustainable development and addressing global challenges such as displacement, climate change, and inequalities. He highlighted the importance of leveraging geospatial information to support the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, stressing its contribution to enhancing governance and driving innovation.

The President of ECOSOC acknowledged the vital contributions of Member States in promoting the use of geospatial data to tackle climate challenges and emphasized the need for international cooperation to ensure the responsible and inclusive use of Geospatial Artificial Intelligence for sustainable development.

Ambassador Rae concluded by reaffirming ECOSOC’s commitment to supporting the work of the Committee of Experts and ensuring that geospatial information remains central to the global agenda.
