Gujjars are a shepherd community in the Indian Himalayan region. Gujjar community in Kashmir are also called the Bakarwals, in Himachal they’re called Gaddi Gujjar while considered simply as Gujjars in Uttarakhand. These Gujjars are different from the Gujjar caste of Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. Gujjar Bakarwals of Kashmir spend the winter in the lower region and summer in the forests and mountains of Kashmir valley.
