Oh man… we’ve got quite a show for you today. We are going to solve one of music’s great mysteries…we are diving deep into what I think is the most infamous and absolutely entertaining, conspiracy theories of the rock era. One that has fascinated fans of the Fab Four in particular, even if it is way, out there. As I mention the Beatles, I’m sure you already know what I talking about. That’s right my friends, I’ve got three words for you… “Paul is dead.” today We solve the mystery was Paul McCartney killed in a car wreck and replaced with someone else…

So a little bit of history to start things off. The “Paul Is Dead” urban legend first started gaining momentum in the fall of 1969. Before then, there had been rumors that McCartney’s health was declining since 1966. And whispers of his alleged death had been circulating since 1967. These purported that Paul had been killed in a traffic accident. And we’ll get into that in a minute.

But let’s jump ahead to when the rumors all started to snowball. The first known article about Paul’s death was printed in the September 17, 1969 edition of the Drake University student paper, the Times-Delphic. The article entitled “Is Beatles Paul McCartney Dead?” was written by Tim Harper, who referenced clues pointing to Paul’s demise in The White album, Sgt. Pepper, and the Magical Mystery Tour.

Less than a month later on October 12, 1969 the Detroit radio station WKNR-FM, with DJ Russ Gibb behind the mic, dug into the “Paul is Dead” story. The hunt for the “secret truth” began after a caller named ‘Tom’, laid out evidence for McCartney’s death on air. For instance, he told Gibb that by playing the Beatles’ White Album track ‘Revolution 9’ backward you could hear that the words became “turn me on, dead man, turn me on, dead man.” The track also held other clues, like the sound of a car crashing.

The call led to an extended discussion about Paul’s alleged death...
