Simple Verge and Foliot escapement in Meccano

Описание к видео Simple Verge and Foliot escapement in Meccano

The Meccano Outfit No.5 from 1978 has a quirky range of parts, including a few gears. Might it possible to build a working clock? This is an experiment to use a 14 tooth Multipurpose Gear as a 7 tooth foliot wheel. Seven domehead bolts are held by a 2 1/2" driveband in alternate gear teeth. A foliot wheel works best with an odd number of teeth, so that one pallet releases a tooth or domehead, here) while the other pallet (here, a Meccano Spring Clip) impedes a tooth. It's crude, but it works, and is easier to set up.

A weight of 210g takes
about 7.5 minutes to fall 240mm. The winding shaft is 4.1km diameter. This is geared up by the large yellow gear, 95t driving a 19t pinion, once every 7.5 seconds. To convert this into a useful clock, is the next challenge!
