If Hoffman (the bagged opponent across from Clancy), doubles your bet via a trump card, there is a chance he has a good hand, so you should play a trump card that removes one of his cards, if you have it. If you go over 21, you should double the bet of Hoffman, and there is a chance he will play a trump card to remove a card from your hand which could bring you back under 21.

When the final round comes and the saw comes out, there will be a point when Hoffman plays the Desperation trump card, which makes it basically sudden death. At some point during the saw match, you will get a trump card called: "Love Your Enemy" which deals them the best possible card from the deck. This is what you use to end the game and beat Lucas at his own game. Beating this unlocks Survival mode, which pits your 5 fingers against 5 opponents.
