Hinger Snare Drums

Описание к видео Hinger Snare Drums

Here are a few rare Hinger snare drums that I use for orchestra playing.
The sizes are 14"x 5" and 14"x 6.5 ".
These drums were made from the 1970's through the 1980's by the Hinger Touchtone Company in New Jersey. The owner of that company, Fred Hinger was one of my teachers at the Manhattan School of Music. He was a legendary timpanist who performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.
These drums are prized for their unique sound. They are a bit darker than the modern day orchestra drums because of the thin fiber shell. In this video I show you the drums, inside and out and put die cast hoops on them in an attempt to dry them up a bit. I then demonstrate the sound of the drums side by side and compare them to a 1920's Ludwig Nickel over brass 14"x 6.5" drum with gut snares which was a common orchestra drum back in the day.
