Concept: The Woman in Blue and her eclectic crew are on a mission — doing their thang, shaking those rumps, experimenting with dihydrogen monoxide, triple-actioning, and ritual-dancing to summon a fire demon to ignite a fireplace… all while surrounded by irresistibly stylish design objects of, shall we say, questionable provenance.

Budget: $somethingwereallycouldn’taffordnow — courtesy of Sony’s seemingly bottomless pockets back in the day.

Curious Notable Detail 1:
When Levi’s wanted “Woman in Blue” for their Twisted Jeans campaign, EMI and Sony cheerfully quoted us £500,000 to clear the song’s Nina Simone and Tony Hatch samples. (That’s over $1.3 million today.) Sony then leaned in and said they’d happily cut us a sweet deal on the Tony Hatch part — but only if EMI didn’t see a penny. So instead of coughing up half a million, we hired a musicologist, rewrote the lyrics and melody (kept the vibe, lost the lawyers), and released it as “Before You Leave”. Net savings: about £480,000… plus Sony ended up licensing the whole album anyway.

Curious Notable Detail 2:
Some claim this video inspired Coca-Cola’s bold (and ultimately unsuccessful) attempt to create the Supreme Diet Coke — not just lighter than water, but lighter than air too!!! While that dream fizzled, a few years later they launched Coke Zero: a soda with zero calories, zero nutrients, and OFFICIALLY zero connection to our music video.
