New Zealand Scenic Drive, The Coromandel.Whitianga,Kuaotunu Beach & The Pacific Coast Highway.

After leaving Hahei we drive north up the Coromandel to Whitianga, stopping on Buffalo Beach. Then on to Kauotunu Beach for a pause. Another stop at the Scenic lookout where the Kaipawa Trig Track starts. Then down the beautiful drive to Coromandel town with views over the Firth of Thames, Followed by the stunning coast drive to the campground at Tararu.

This video is part of our 2017 six week road trip around New Zealand / Aotearoa . We flew down from Auckland to Christchurch, collected our campervan and drove to Glentunnel. Then over the Southern Alps to Hokitika and on to Franz Josef Haast & Wanaka. The Wanaka Triathlon was on the day we left, giving us views of the contestants as we drive to Arrowtowm. Leaving Arrowtown we drove along Lake Wakatipu and on to Te Anau. At Te Anau we took the trip to Doubtful Sound / Patea.Leaving Te Anau we drove to Dunedin. From Dunedin we followed the coastal scenic route North turning inland after Omaru to Twizel. From Twizel we drove to Mt Cook / Aoraki on a beautiful sunny morning and then on to Lake Tekapo. From Tekapo we had planned to drive North of Christchurch and then stop but we did not find any campgrounds . We were heading for Havelock and as SH 1 was close after the 2016 earthquake we had to turn inland on SH7 and finally stopped at Murchison. A very long day. Then on to Havelock where we canoed the Pelorus River and then Picton for the Ferry to North Island , a calm sunny day for the trip up Queen Charlotte Sound and the Cook Strait.We stayed overnight in Wellington. The next morning we drove North along the coast to Whanganui.The next day into the Tongarero National park and up the SW side of Mt Ruapehu to Mangawhero Falls (Gollums Pool) then on to Taurangi.A short trip the next day to Taupo staying for 2 nights where we walked to the Huka Falls and on to the "Craters of the Moon" a volcanic area of pools and Geysers. The following day on to Rotarua to visit Te Puia - more Geysers et, Whitianga Coromandel Town & stopping at Tararu (North of Thames).Next through Auckland to Pahia where we took the Bay of Islands trip through the "Hole in the Rock" (a Great trip wiuth a stop for Dophin watching) .Mangonui Next and a trip in a coach on 90 Mile Beach and Cape Rienga.A short trip to Rangiputa then Whangerei (and its Falls) and finally back to Auckland.A great trip if rather busy. PS. We did not record all our driving on this trip as we have in our later trips.
