Life as a teen referee - BBC Young Reporter

Ryan is an FA qualified referee.

But often when he is refereeing games, he faces verbal abuse from players, parents, coaches and managers which he thinks prevents more young people getting involved in the grassroots game.

He spoke to the Referees’ Association - which supports more than 2,000 young referees – and found out he is not alone in facing pitchside abuse.
