Assam, state in northeastern India. The name Assam is derived from the word ‘asama,’ meaning ‘peerless’ in the now extinct Ahom language. The neighboring states of Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram, and Meghalaya were once part of Assam. The capital, formerly Shillong, was shifted to Dispur in 1972.

For a state secluded in the far eastern corner of India, Assam has come a long way in the education of it's youth. The state has excellent English medium schools, Arts and Science Colleges, and Engineering and Medical Colleges.

The concept of smart class education is indeed a blessing to the students of the 21st Century In order to ensure quality and effective education in secondary level Govt. of, Assam has started the smart class concept in 103 nos. of class rooms across the State in 84 Schools. which will make the teaching and learning process more effective.
