Here's the full Francesinha recipe:

Servings: Four
Time: 40-50 minutes
Special equipment: Hand blender or blender

THE SAUCE:

200g bacon
100g chorizo
1 large onion
3 garlic cloves
2 bay leaf
200 ml olive oil + two tbsp
400g diced tomatoes or tomato sauce from tin
2 small potatoes
1 cube beef stock/bouillon
50 ml port wine
50 ml Madeira sweet wine
100 ml red wine + a splash or two.
½ L blond beer
1 chili of choice
2 tbsp Worcester sauce
Salt
Black pepper

THE FRANCESINHA:

8 slices of ham
28 slices of cheese
12 slices of pepperoni or salami
4 thin slices of veal steak + 1 tbsp fat or butter
8 sausages
12 slices of toast

THE SAUCE:

1) Chop onion and garlic roughly
2) Peel and cut your potatoes in cubes
3) Add red wine, port wine and madeira sweet wine in a bowl. Give a little stir.
4) Heat up a large pot on maximum heat with some two tablespoons of olive oil.
5) When the oil is nice and hot add your chorizo and bacon and fry until the fat has left the meat.
6) Remove the bacon and chorizo from the pot and leave all the fat and oil in the pot. Save your fried chorizo and bacon for another day as for now we only needed the flavor from the fat that's in the pot.
7) Now add the rest of the olive oil (200ml) in the pot and heat it up.
8) Add onion garlic and potatoes in the pot and give it a stir
9) When the onion is turning clear you add the alcohol blend, beer, tomatoes, bay leaves, chili and the beef bouillon cube.
10) Let it simmer on medium heat for 20 minutes
11) Meanwhile, set the oven to 200c and cut the sausages in half.
12) Then prepare the veal steaks with salt and pepper on both sides.
13) Heat a pan on maximum heat and fry the sausage in fat or butter.
14) Transfer the sausages on a plate and fry the veal steaks in the leftover fat on the pan. Make sure to undercook the steak a bit!
15) Remove the steak and let it rest.
16) Now back to the sauce. Remove bay leaves and chili from the pot and grab your hand blender.
17) Blend the sauce to a nice thick consistency and add salt and pepper to your own taste.
18) Add another splash of red wine and give it a stir.
19) Keep the sauce hot on low heat while assembling the Francesinhas.
20) You should place the sandwiches in a dish that can go in the oven.
21) Don't put the sandwiches too close to each other as the cheese melt.
22) When assembling the sandwiches, think of the cheese as the glue. We need a lot of glue. Assemble the Francesinha in the following order:

a) Toast
b) Cheese
c) Ham
d) Sausages
e) Cheese
f) Steak
g) Cheese
h) Toast
i) Cheese
j) Ham
k) Pepperoni
l) Cheese
m) Bread

23) Place the Francesinha sandwiches in the oven for 5-10 minutes (or until the cheese is creamy and melted.
24) When the sandwiches have baked you are ready to place them on the serving plates. Use deep plates.
25) When the Francesinhas are on the serving plate, you cover the sandwiches with the remaining cheese.
26) Finally, you add the creamy hot Francesinha sauce on top and watch the cheese melt as the sauce covers them.
