Being born in the early 90's, I first fell in love with Counting Crows' music when Shrek 2 came out. I may have been aware of 'Mr. Jones' previously, but 'Accidentally in Love' was definitely what caught my attention as an aspiring young songwriter and artist. Through the years, I delved further into their music and found that Adam's songwriting really resonated with me, a relatable disconnect, a haunting over-emotionality and all sorts of elements that contradict each other in essence. From their flawless performances, to their immaculate studio work, I will always be a fan of theirs and whenever I consider what kind of band I would like to be in (if I weren't a wandering songwriter), Counting Crows is really it. Here's one of their most bittersweet compositions that I love.
