Another daily driven pre '64 vehicle made it's appearance at Byron Dragway's vintage drag racing event "Glory Days". This time it's Wisconsin resident Tony McDonald's rare '37 Dodge Brothers Pickup! Tony bought the truck in pieces in '12 and started putting it back together. Tony stuck with a dodge powertrain installing a 318ci engine along with a Dodge Dakota 5 speed and for something out of the ordinary a irs jaguar rearend was fabbed in. In '17 it made its maiden voyage to the HAMB drags in Joplin Missouri and ran its best time ever racing with a 15.3@89 mph.
Wasn't long after that Tony decided to set his eyes on the '19 Hot Rod Drag Week event and began updating the truck to compete. Sticking with his mopar roots he installed a '69 340ci engine bored .030 over, with a 750 Holley Double Pumper, Trickflow heads and a solid lifter cam. Shifting is rowed through a Tremec Tko 600 5 speed, with a Mcleod super street pro clutch and billet flywheel to handle the 7000 rpm launches. The rear is set up with a pro street 4 link kit with a Ford 8.8 and 4.30 gears. The 2900lb truck is slowed with disc brakes on all 4 wheels. Tony has done all the work on the truck besides the wiring, which was done by a good friend of his. This setup has yielded Tony a best run to date of 11.3 @120mph.
Tony drives the truck during summer and when he races it he drives it to the race track and home never using a trailer. The truck has been driven and raced all over the USA including Virginia, Delaware, Maryland, Missouri, Arkansas, Wisconsin and here to Byron, Illinois. #dodgebrothers #37dodgepickup #glorydays
