Описание к видео Why It's Hard to Build Muscle After 50 - With Erik Bustillo, Fitness Dietitian

Nope, it's not your imagination - building and maintaining muscle IS harder as you age, but it’s not impossible! This week Erik Bustillo, fitness dietitian, breaks down why building muscle is harder and how ADEQUATE PROTEIN intake is a game-changer for your strength after 50.
How much is adequate protein intake? Keep reading👇🏽

Muscle building is harder if you are in your 40s, 50s and above because of "anabolic resistance".
Anabolic resistance refers to the body's reduced ability to build muscle in response to protein intake, especially as we age. This phenomenon can make it harder to gain or maintain muscle mass, which is crucial for overall health and strength.
Eating enough protein is essential to combat anabolic resistance. (So is weight training!💪🏽)
Adequate protein intake helps stimulate muscle protein synthesis, ensuring your body can effectively build and repair muscle tissue, keeping you strong and active.
While the RDA for a healthy adult is 0.8g protein per kilogram of body weight—it is much higher for older adults.
For older adults, Erik recommends 1.6g protein per kilogram of body weight for daily total protein intake. And at least 20-40g of protein per meal or snack.

If you aren’t getting enough protein, plant protein powders, like Growing Naturals Rice and Pea Protein Powders, are an easy and delicious way to help fill those nutritional gaps. Always great in smoothies and shakes, you can also add protein powder to oatmeal, yogurt, cereal, baked goods, energy balls, pancakes, and breakfast bars! (Lots of recipes on our website)
