EMU Rock Medley: Seiyuu singing American Rock

So this comes from the E.M.U first live VCD. E.M.U (Entertainment Music Unit) were a seiyuu unit of five performers brought together to do the voices for Sotsugyou M's characters and, at the same time, record music to be released as singles and on albums. Some songs were sold as being performed by 'M' (the band in the Sotsugyou M manga, novels and drama CDs) and others were sold under E.M.U (pronounced the same way as the letter "M" is pronounced in Japanese).

This one was never released. I don't remember if it even went on the live album, because it was a one off performance for that concert and never put down in studio.

Because Sotsugyou M's manga and novels have never been translated, and because there is only one rather dilute OVA that has any kind of fan translation, this is a relatively unknown series. I've always thought that sad because the manga and novels, drama CDs are much more powerful story-wise than the rather comedic OVA. It is set in a boy's boarding school. It charts the eventful lives of five very different students and their personal challenges, angsts, and attempts to avoid the stalkerish tendencies of the School Council President, Kusanagi.

Many of the other M and E.M.U songs are floating around on Youtube, so the music at least still has an audience. The two part OVA is also on Youtube somewhere, possibly listed under Graduation M.

This clip comes from a concert that happened in 1996, so there are some very freshfaced seiyuu in this clip. I decided to leave the intro on although I can't sub it - since they're talking about the rock musicians they like. Of course, Midorikawa-san had to be mischievous as ever and said he liked Okiayu Ryoutarou's sexy voice, which explains all the laughter for those who can;t understand xD.

They are singing in English. So at times it's Engrish, but given that they did it with real English songs and with instruments as well, its not bad going.

This clip is pretty hard to find because all the media it was released on (VHS and VCD) is long since out of print. It did not appear (if I recall correctly) on the compilation DVD in 2000, which was the last time any E.M.U video was released and which is also long out of print.

I am therefore sharing this snippet for the benefit of seiyuu fans, though of course if E.M.U's material ever is remarketed, I will remove this from Youtube forthwith. There is no intent to therefore infringe copyright, and I am not offering the file for download.
