Скачать или смотреть A Port BOMB of a Whiskey || Drumshanbo Port Cask Irish Whiskey REVIEW

Drumshanbo are a relatively small whiskey distillery, who have been working away for a while now, making good Irish pot still whiskey, and that’s what we’ve got here with their single pot still which spent seven long years in a Tawny Port cask!

Drumshanbo use a mashbill with a mix of malted barley, unmalted barley and Barra Oats. They don’t share the breakdown of malted and unmalted barley, but they have confirmed that 5% of the mashbill is made up of those barra oats. Using oats in a mashbill should add some rounded and creamy notes to balance against the spicy and oily notes which would be typical of an Irish Pot Still whiskey.

This whiskey was distilled in 2018 and is their annual special release for 2025, which means it is seven years old. It was also fully matured in that Tawny Port cask. The whiskey comes in at 43% ABV, so let’s dive right into it!

Tasting Notes
Nose
The port influence is immediately apparent, with caramelised sugars and dark red berry notes balanced against some peppery pot still spice and orange citrus

Palate
The palate has a really rich and creamy mouthfeel, which is followed by more of those lovely red berries, oak spice, orange oils and the aged, caramelised sugar notes from the tawny port

Finish
The finish isn't particularly long, but it's a solid medium, with the sweet and fruity notes fading, but leaving a nice tingle of spice

Overall, this is a nice little whiskey, which highlights the impact that a solid amount of time in a good cask can have. The whiskey has a spicy and creamy base, with a nice amount of fruity influence to keep it interesting. The creaminess actually made me think that it had spent some time in bourbon casks, as the Tawny Port influence wasn’t overpowering, just nicely balanced.
