Tommy Paul bounced back after losing the second set of his Hamburg European Open match against Kevin Anderson 6-0 to win in three sets and book a place in the second round on Monday.

Qualifier Paul broke Anderson's serve in the opening game of the match and although the South African saved four set points in the ninth game, his opponent closed it out moments later.

Anderson was completely dominant in the second set though, breaking Paul three times in a row, and it looked like the momentum was with the world number 119.

However, Paul broke to love in the third game of the deciding set and later claimed another love game - this time on serve - to wrap up a 6-4, 0-6, 6-4 victory.

The American will face either 2019 finalist Andrey Rublev or compatriot Tennys Sandgren in the second round.
