What gives crystals different shapes? | The 7 crystal systems

Описание к видео What gives crystals different shapes? | The 7 crystal systems

Have you ever looked at a crystal/mineral and wondered why its shaped looks like it could be manmade? How come some crystals are shaped like cubes, others like rhombohedrons, others with 6 sides, etc.? In this video I talk about the seven major crystal systems that describe the "unit cell", or the smallest possible "building block" for a crystal lattice that forms the crystal faces in a mineral. I also briefly explain the difference between crystal structure, and crystal habit - while mentioning one mineral I think is considered a 'catfish mineral'. Leave a comment below for what crystal systems you think the 3 (manmade/glass) crystals I showed would belong in! (Names are 1,2,3 in order of appearance)
