Rannamaari: Maldives Journey to Islam

Synopsis

This documentary talks about the possible truth behind the myth regarding the conversion of Maldives to Islam in 1153 AD. The myth tells how Rannamaari, a sea monster which demanded monthly sacrifice of a virginal female; was vanquished by a travelling Moroccan using Noble Quran and how he inspired the king to embrace Islam. While this dramatic version is unlikely to be fully accurate, Maldives has no official version regarding the conversion. Therefore, this documentary attempts to present the possible truth behind the story based on history, a survey and an in-depth interview with an expert in the field.
