Connect to an available Wi-Fi network in range with Windows 7 to add the network connection settings to your computer. If the network is broadcasting its SSID, you can connect to the network from the Windows 7 desktop. If the network’s SSID is not broadcasting, create a new hidden connection with the Set Up a Connection or Network Wizard. You need the network password to connect to a secure network, and you’ll also need the SSID, password and security type to connect to a hidden network.

The biggest problem with connecting to a wireless network is that you don’t have your computer’s wireless NIC activated. There are two places to look.

First, check for an external switch on a laptop computer that turns wireless networking on or off. You may find a tiny wireless NIC icon next to the switch. Place that switch into the On or active position.

Laptops today all have Wi-Fi (wireless Internet) built-in, allowing people to connect to the Internet from almost anywhere. For security reasons, compatibility, or other reasons, you may want to enable and disable the Wi-Fi on your laptop.

This tutorial will apply for computers, laptops, desktops, and tablets running the Windows 10, Windows 8/8.1, Windows 7 operating systems. Works for all major computer manufactures (Dell, HP, Acer, Asus, Toshiba, Lenovo, Samsung).
