Azim Premji. He is one of India's well-known and respected business leaders. He inherited a cooking oil company from his father and turned it into India's 3rd largest IT company and 11th largest publicly traded company. So, in today's episode let's understand the story & the scale of Wipro limited.
Wipro's business can be divided into two parts. Wipro Limited and Wipro enterprise limited. Wipro limited concentrates on the IT business of the company and it is listed on the stock market. Whereas Wipro enterprise limited concentrates on non-Its business which includes Consumer Care & Lighting and Wipro Infrastructure Engineering business and it is not listed on stock market. So when you buy a stock of Wipro, you are actually buying the stock of IT business.
Wipro started off as a FMCG company and entered to an industry which largely unknown and built a successful business out of it. The story of Wipro is nothing short of an adventure and all the credit goes to Azim Premji. Leadership is the capacity to turn vision into reality. there very few leaders who did that and Azim Premji is one of them. In 2005 Indian government honoured him with Padma Sri for his contribution to trade and commerce. After leading Wipro for 53 years Azim Premji retired in 2019 and his son Rishabh Premji took over as chairman but the legacy Azim Premji left behind lives on forever.
