COLUMBUS, Ohio – Buckeyes vs Bruins

No. 2/2 UCLA Women's Basketball used a dominant third quarter to take down No. T-12/11 Ohio State 77-71, on Monday night in Columbus, Ohio. The win was UCLA's first win at Ohio State in program history.

With the win UCLA improves to 10-0 on the season, their best start to a season since the 2019-20 squad started 16-0.

Graduate Student Charisma Osborne led the Bruins with 19 points and was 8-for-10 from the foul line. Sophomore Lauren Betts also finished with 17 points, 11 rebounds, a career-high five blocks, and earned her sixth double-double of the season.

Ohio State (9-2) started the game strongly, going on a 7-0 run to start the game. Betts then scored four of the Bruins' first six points, including snatching an offensive board and putting it back in for the bucket, to cut into the OSU advantage, making it a 10-6 game.

After Ohio State's 7-0 run to begin the game, the Bruins responded with a run of their own. Londynn Jones picked off a pass in the OSU backcourt and finished at the rim, capping off an 8-0 run for the Bruins, and tying the game at 10-10 six minutes into the game. The teams would trade baskets to conclude the quarter and the score was knotted up at 17-17 at the quarter break.

The Bruins took their first lead of the game midway through the second quarter. As part of a 6-0 run, Jones went to the line after being fouled and sank both free throws to put UCLA up 25-24.

UCLA stretched their run to 12-0 after Angela Dugalic and Betts scored in quick succession to putthe3 Bruins up seven, 31-24, with 3:28 left in the half.

The Bruins increased their lead to eight, 35-27, after Charisma Osborne made two foul shots, before taking a 37-31 lead into halftime. In the opening half Betts finished with nine points on 4-for-6 from the field, five rebounds, and four blocks.

The Bruins continued to stamp their authority on the game throughout the third quarter. Dugalic nailed the UCLA's first triple of the night at the 7:28 mark of the quarter to give her squad a 46-35 lead. Betts then recorded her career-high fifth block at the 4:30 mark, before Rice made a fast break layup at the other end. Osborne followed that with a triple before Betts added in two more layups as the Bruins stormed out to a then game-high 20-point lead, 59-39 with 2:43 to go in the third.

Osborne drained her second 3-pointer of the quarter at the 2:08 mark before the Bruins took a 63-45 lead into the start of the fourth quarter.

UCLA continued to put the pressure on in the fourth quarter, as Gabriela Jaquez picked off a pass and went coast-to-coast for the score to put the Bruins up a game-high 22 points, 67-45.

Ohio State would go on a 14-2 run, closing the gap to 10, 69-59, before Osborne quieted the crowd with her third 3-pointer of the night, as UCLA took a 72-59 lead with 4:24 remaining.


The Bruins managed the game from there and despite another run from Ohio State, UCLA came away with the 77-71 win on the road on Monday night.
