Hi, I'm Matt with etrailer, and today we're talking with a Reese Hitch Cargo Carrier on the back of our 2023 Jeep Gladiator. Now this is gonna be a great option for you if the back of your bed is maybe filling up and you need to store some extra items, or you don't want any cross contamination occurring, maybe you have some items back there that you don't want getting contaminated or mixed up with something else. You'll be able to haul those additional items back here. Or maybe you're out hunting and you've got some game, and you don't want it bleeding in the back of your bed. This is gonna be a great option for that too. So let's check it out.

This system's gonna be a very durable system. It's gonna have a weight capacity to up to 500 pounds. What I recommend doing though, is just checking what your Jeep is rated for, then going from the lowest rated component. And it's also gonna be made of steel, and have a black powder coat finish to it. So that steel is gonna make it very durable to hold up to a lot of stuff.

And this finish is gonna help to be more weather resistant so it doesn't rust overtime. Now I'll say, if you do plan on tying off a lot of items here, which there's gonna be a lot of great tie off points because we're gonna have these very sturdy rungs. If you are using metal hooks on the very end of those, that could scrape off some of the finish and make it more prone the rusting in this locations. Now another spot that might seem like a great point to tie off to is right here, where we have these loops. And what those loops are actually for is if you want to buy a light kit separately for this carrier, you'll be able to do that and it'll go right here.

Let's talk about how it's gonna sit back here. So you'll notice, we do have a decent amount of space, and that's enough for me to walk back here. If I need to reach in and grab anything from my bed, you'll have that ability. But it's also gonna make it stick out a lot further. So that total distance from our back bumper to the back of the carrier is gonna be around 35 inches, which is a decent amount.

Something to definitely think about if you're in a tight spot, like a parking spot or garage. As for our ground clearance, since this does have a rise in the shank, this is gonna sit up a little bit higher, and it's gonna sit off the ground by 21 inches. So you're have plenty of room there. As far as how this is gonna interact with the back of a Jeep, it is gonna block a few items. And the first thing that's gonna block is our license plate. If you're driving down the road, maybe if someone's sitting up in the taller vehicle, they're probably able to see it, but most of sedans won't be able to see that. As for our backup camera, this is gonna block a majority of it. You might be able to see a little bit, but what I recommend is just sticking to using your back window and mirrors. But your taillights and tailgate won't be obstructed. I can actually still open up the tailgate. And yeah, it's gonna be pretty close, but we'll still be able to open it up with about an inch or two to spare. And the way this is gonna install is we're gonna this two inch shank that goes into this two inch hitch receiver. And in a usual case, you would have a pin and a clip that it could connect to, but this kit actually doesn't come with that, which I'm not a huge fan of. And what I actually recommend is just checking out somewhere, or you can even go to our website, and finding an anti-rattle. They really secure this down, so you don't get a lot of this rattling. Because as you can see, if you just put a regular pin in here, this is moving around quite a bit. And of course, that's gonna be reduced when you do have this fully loaded. But that amount of rattling is a lot. Overall, this is gonna be a pretty good option for you if you are running out of space in the back of your bed, or you're carrying something that you don't want back there that's gonna leak all over the place. Now in all honesty, I've actually recommend the etrailer Hitch Cargo Carrier because this gonna be about the same size as the one we have right now, only it's gonna stick out a little bit further, and it's gonna allow you to open up your tailgate all the way without it even covering the back of our carrier. And it's gonn
