On Golden Pond - Arts Council of the Twin Counties

Filled with humor and pathos, ON GOLDEN POND focuses on aging couple Ethel and Norman Thayer, who spend each summer at their home on a lake called Golden Pond. During the year the story takes place, they are visited by daughter Chelsea with her fiancé Billy Ray and his son Billy Ray Jr. The play explores the often turbulent relationship the young woman shared with her father growing up, and the difficulties faced by a couple in the twilight years of a long marriage.

Patrick Butler, perhaps best known to Twin Counties audiences as Herr Drosselmeyer in the Conservatory of Dance’s productions of THE NUTCRACKER, will play curmudgeonly Norman Thayer, Jr., with local leading lady, Stephannie Dees, playing his lively, long-suffering, sweetheart, Ethel Thayer. Whitetop resident Sue Revels, who appeared in SOME ENCHANTED EVENING, IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE and THE WORLD OF CARL SANDBURG, joins the cast as Chelsea Thayer Wayne, the daughter of Norman and Ethel who struggles with building an adult relationship with her father. Taking on the role Chelsea’s boyfriend, Bill Ray (the dentist from L.A.) is Galax City Councilman, Ches Helmick, with Carroll County High School student Wesley Harmon playing his “too cool” son, Billy Ray, Jr. Rounding out the cast is Jim Williams as Charlie Martin, the local delivery-by-boat mailman, who nurses a life-long crush on Chelsea. ON GOLDEN POND is directed by Karen Stevens and is produced by The Arts Council of the Twin Counties.
