Why is your home page like an anchor?
Don't worry this isn't some dodgy dad joke that Ben came up with - although he's deffo got plenty of those stashed away!

So, why is your homepage like an anchor?
Well, I don't know about you lot, but when I do a Google search for something it's very rare that I would click through and immediately land on someone's homepage.
I'd end up on a page of a website that answered the search query I'd been looking for.
So, for example I recently did a search for 'how long will my dog's first season be' (my puppy got her first period and I needed answers!) Rather than taking me to the homepage of a particular website, Google showed me the page that had my answer - and in most cases it will be a blog post!
Now, if that blog post is interesting enough/answers my question/I like what I've read/it captures my attention I will then always click through to the homepage of that site.
The homepage feels safe, it's the anchor of the whole website.
From there I can find other information I might be interested in, learn more about the business, find out about any services or products that are offered.
So, whilst the homepage isn't necessarily the thing capturing attention and drawing visitors in, it will always be the page that people are drawn to once they've made it to your website.
And that's why it's so important to make sure your homepage is doing everything it should to:
💚 Make things clear for your audience about what you do and what you offer.
🩷 Make it easy for your audience to navigate the site and find what they're looking for.
💙 Make your audience want to stick around as long as possible.
