Описание к видео Five of the best storylines from weekend of club GAA

We had another entertaining weekend of club action with the Kerry football championships taking centre stage along with the Waterford hurling action.

There were also crunch group games in Meath, Offaly, Roscommon and further afield. Here are five of the weekend’s highlights.

Paudie Clifford chips in
Paudie Clifford was the hero as Fossa came from six down to defeat Beaufort in the Kerry intermediate quarter-final yesterday. on Sunday afternoon. Fossa Beaufort were six points clear at the break and managed to maintain that advantage to the 45th minute until Clifford rode to the rescue with two late goals to snatch victory and secure a semi-final date with Kilcummin next weekend. for Fossa, who advance to play Kilcummin in next weekend’s semi-final.

Clifford’s second goal was a moment of pure genius with the game in the balance melting pot in injury-time.

Brother David set Paudie free having gathered a loose ball without breaking stride. The eldest brother then showed class and composure to deftly chip the Beaufort goalie, delighting the packed crowd. It was the last score of the game and it sealed a two-point (2-11 to 0-15) win for Fossa.

There were some questions as to whether he meant to go for three points with his delicate touch it or not but Clifford insisted afterwards he only had eyes for the Beaufort net. when asked if he was going for a goal. after the game.

“I was yeah because I would have hand passed it over if I wanted to get a point,” the three-time All Star older Clifford brother told Clubber’s John O’Dowd.

Are you giving him the benefit of the doubt?

Dessie Hutchinson downs De La Salle
Two late goals from Dessie Hutchinson kept Ballygunner’s 12-in-a-row dreams on course in Waterford and extended their unbeaten run in the county championship to 65 games.

De La Salle were the last Waterford team to beat Ballygunner back in 2015 and they were in a good position after 44 minutes, leading by five points against 14 fourteen men after Patrick Fitzgerald was sent off for the favourites.

They led by one point with two minutes left but then Dessie Hutchinson dashed their dreams. Substitute Pauric Mahony set up the second of Hutchinson’s goals, blocking down an attempted De La Salle clearance before flicking through to Hutchinson who was one-on-one with the goalie.

He made no mistake on what was a remarkable weekend for Ballygunner who also won the Premier Intermediate title, defeating Tallow by seven points. Victory there means they look set to have two teams in the Waterford senior hurling championship for 2026.

The all-conquering Gunners’ hopes of an unprecedented treble were ended by Kilrossanty who had their measure in the Junior A final, though Ballygunner will nonetheless hope to bring up the double when they face Austin Gleeson’s Mount Sion in the final.

Diarmuid O’Connor scores stunning goal for Na Gaeil
A Diarmuid O’Connor inspired Na Gaeil held off Dingle’s late rally to reach the semi-finals of the Kerry club championship. The underdogs raced into a commanding 1-10 to 0-0 lead 22 minutes in with the aid of a strong breeze against a depleted Dingle side who were missing the likes of Barry Dan O’Sullivan and Tom O’Sullivan through injury.

Na Gaeil midfielder Diarmuid O’Connor capitalised, racing through the heart of the West Kerry men’s defence in the first half before finding the back of the net with a stunning finish off the left foot.

Paul Geaney wasn’t fit to start the game for Dingle but came on after 18 minutes and turned it on its head with a powerful second-half showing, scoring six two-pointers, including three from play, but the Tralee side held on.

O’Connor missed the business end of Kerry’s season through shoulder issues but has been in top form for his club, scoring 1-2 on the day as they held off Dingle’s comeback to win by 1-15 to 0-17.

County stars link up for Boyle
Boyle progressed to the quarter-finals of the Roscommon senior football championship as table-toppers after a seven-point win over Oran.

Boyle have lost two of the last three county finals but they’ve started well in their bid to end a 97-year wait for the Fahey Cup by winning three out of three in the group stages.

Donie Smith recently retired from inter-county football after a stellar 13-year career and he showed his enduring class, hitting 1-13 in a hard-earned victory. Three of Boyle’s other Roscommon stars linked up in some style for the game’s opening goal.

Cian McKeon laid off to Enda Smith who cut through the heart of the opposition defence with a mazy and powerful run. Smith flicked onto Daire Cregg who showed his composure before rattling the net, with Boyle going onto win by 2-23 to 2-16.

Meath Hill secure bittersweet win
A late two-pointer from Cormac Sheehy delivered Meath Hill’s first victory in Meath SFC history but it wasn’t enough to stave off their relegation fears.
