Hey guys, I’m Kira and today you’ll learn how to pronounce the phrase с удовольствием, or “with pleasure”.

The с is a preposition; we tack it right onto the next word, so the first syllable becomes “су”. Let’s say it with good Russian default mouth position – jaw slightly forward, tip of the tongue behind the bottom teeth, lips rounded and protruded WAY more than you would in English: су, су. The o in the next syllable sounds like an a-flavored schwa; let’s do the first two syllables – jaw, tongue, lips: с у-до, с у-до. In English, the letter o closes to an oo sound: “oh”, “oh”. But Russian does the opposite – it opens either from an “oh” to an “ah” sound or from an “oo” to an “oh” sound: o, o. Let’s say the beginning of the third syllable with a Russian o – jaw, tongue, lips: во, во. We still need a soft л in this syllable: it almost has a y sound built into it: во-ль, во-ль, воль, воль. Now let’s add on the с and the т, along with the last two syllables; make sure your tongue is high for the в, which almost sounds like it has a y built in, and that the е sounds like a schwa. Here we go – jaw, tongue, lips: с удово́льствием, с у-до-во́льст-ви-ем, с удово́льствием, с удово́льствием, с удово́льствием. С удово́льствием!
