On October 19, 2021, award-winning writer Nnedi Okorafor joins Matt Bell's "Writing Science Fiction" class for a conversation about her acclaimed novel "Lagoon," as well as issues of worldbuilding in science fiction and fantasy, Africanfuturism and other genres.

Together they will discuss how imagining fictional worlds might make new possibilities reachable in our own futures.

Okorafor's works include "Who Fears Death" (in development at HBO into a TV series), the "Binti" novella trilogy (optioned and in development with Media Res) and many other novels, stories and comics. She is the winner of Hugo, Nebula, World Fantasy, Locus and Lodestar Awards, and her debut novel "Zahrah the Windseeker" won the prestigious Wole Soyinka Prize for Literature.

This event is part of ASU Humanities Week and is cosponsored by The College Division of Humanities, the Institute for Humanities Research and the Department of English.
