5 billion people globally cannot access safe, affordable and timely surgery.

The reasons for this are varied, from lack of facilities and not enough staff to lack of resources and limited funding. For Dr. Bruce, a paediatric surgeon in Zambia, the reasons that affect him the most in his day-to-day job is lack of children's surgical equipment and staff.

He and his team must make tough choices every day. Sometimes they can't operate because they are missing an essential piece of equipment. Sometimes they must turn away an emergency case because there aren't enough surgeons to operate.

We sit down with Dr. Bruce to discuss the challenges he faces as a paediatric surgeon in a middle-income country and what he'd like to change to achieve #Surgery4All.
