The Most Overkill Anti-Tank Missile

In the late stages of the Cold War, Soviet tank development took a rapid turn that frightened NATO leaders. Not only were current generation main battle tanks becoming much more prevalent, but it was becoming increasingly difficult to destroy them with infantry anti-tank weapons and air deployable assets. This was largely due to their large investment in explosive reactive armor, which is great for countering chemical effect rounds such as shaped charges. In order to counter these new developments, the US military began to investigate a variety of new anti-tank technologies. These included new 105mm and 120mm tank ammunition, top attack anti-tank missiles, and kinetic energy missiles. Kinetic energy developments included the SPIKE hypervelocity rocket, Vought Hypervelocity Missile (HVM), Line of Sight Anti-Tank (LOSAT), Advanced Kinetic Energy Missile (ADKEM), and Compact Kinetic Energy Missile (CKEM). These were all powerful tools in their own right.
