Описание к видео Why is my doctor refusing to induce me if I'm having a VBAC?

Whenever a woman has had a C-section she always wonders what implications it has on future pregnancies. Of course the question remains; can I have a vaginal birth in the future? A vaginal birth after a C-section is called a VBAC. 60%-80% of women who attempt a VBAC are actually successful, meaning it worked out and they didn't need another C-section. It's not without risk. If you think about it if you make an incision down your bicep and start to lift heavy weight, there is a possibility that it could burst open. The same risk exists with the uterus. An incision has to be made on the uterus in order to get the baby out. It becomes a weak point forevermore. The next time you're pregnant you might start to contract and it could cause that weak point to rupture. This is called a uterine rupture and it can be life threatening to mothers and babies. Women who want to undergo a VBAC need to understand that this is a potential risk. Thankfully though it only happens 1% of the time so many doctors, depending on each woman's situation, will recommend it to their patients as an option for future pregnancies. You mentioned in your case your doctor will not allow you to be induced and this is actually very good practice. With induction we have to give you Pitocin and induce contractions. There is a slightly greater risk of uterine rupture for women who are induced versus those who go into labor spontaneously. Your doctor is trying to look out for your baby's wellbeing and your wellbeing. This reduces the chances of you having a uterine rupture and it just helps things to go more smoothly in general. Around 38 weeks at your doctor's appointment your OB provider might start stripping your membranes. This helps to irritate the uterus and get you contracting and might help you go into labor on your own. When they're stripping the membranes what they do is stick their finger up inside the cervix if you're dilated at all and separate the amniotic sac from the cervical membranes and this irritates your uterus and can make you contract which could lead to delivery. If you get to the point where you're 41 weeks and you haven't delivered then you have to have a conversation about, are there things we can do to induce like just break your water and see if you start to contract? Or do we have to do a C-section? Your doctor can have these conversations with you if you get to that point. It is good advice to avoid the use of Pitocin with an induction if you're attempting a VBAC. There are situations where a woman receives Pitocin during labor even when she's attempting a VBAC but it's usually not for induction it's to augment labor. If she's gone into labor spontaneously on her own and then comes in and changes and then stalls out at six centimeters, she can't go home, we have to do something. A very low dose of Pitocin used judiciously can help her to continue to progress and deliver vaginally. Again, it has to be used very carefully in order to reduce the risk of rupture. As for Foley balloons, a Foley balloon is used in conjunction with Pitocin in most cases. Again, you want to be very careful when using Pitocin on a woman who has had a C-section before. Your doctor's hesitations are very valid although I can understand where you're coming from as well. We hear people's stories and from their stories we take it into our own situations and wonder if they apply. Every single birth is circumstantial. The chances are we don't know the exact circumstances that were surrounding those other women who had Pitocin during their labor. Again, your doctor's advice is very sound. If you have more questions about it don't hesitate to have a candid conversation with them. They can share their concerns with you and you with them. I hope the very best for you and if you have any other questions in the future feel free to ask them on our Facebook page at Facebook.com/IntermountainMoms and recommend us to your friends and family too.
