Montea is stepping up its commitment to sustainable logistics real estate with the launch of its first battery energy hub in Willebroek, part of one of the largest smart energy storage projects in Belgium. Across 13 logistics sites in the country, we are installing systems to store and optimize renewable energy – 6 of which are delivered by partner iwell.

Minister-President Matthias Diependaele emphasized its strategic importance:

"Flanders is a premier region for logistics, and securing that leadership requires strategic infrastructure investments. Montea exemplifies how businesses can take the lead in pioneering innovative and competitive solutions."

Energy availability is a growing challenge in logistics. Montea’s energy hubs store solar energy and deploy it when needed, solving capacity shortages and peak demand mismatches. Jo De Wolf, CEO of Montea, explains:

"We are not just building for today; we are building for future generations. Here in Willebroek, stored solar energy powers our buildings, heats warehouses with heat pumps, and charges e-trucks used by our client, Dachser."

For DACHSER, this hub is a game-changer for zero-emission transport. Tom Verheyen, Country Manager Belgium at Dachser, shares:

"Montea’s investment in battery storage makes it possible for Dachser Belgium to introduce our first electric trucks. Without this energy hub, that wouldn’t have been possible."

iwell’s smart Energy Management System (EMS) ensures efficient energy use. Céline De Keersmaeker, Country Director Belgium at iwell, adds:

"By combining our battery solutions with an advanced EMS, we ensure that renewable energy is efficiently stored and strategically deployed."

This project is part of Montea’s Track27 strategy, targeting a 45% CO₂ reduction by 2027. Together with our clients and partners, we are shaping the future of sustainable logistics real estate.
