(When I asked a handyman how much it’ll cost to put in a few missing ceiling tiles in a small basement bathroom, he said he can do it for $300. The ceiling tiles are actually very light, so I decided to install the drop down ceiling tiles myself.)

In this video, I show you how to cut ceiling tiles, both the standard ceiling tiles (Armstrong tiles) and the decorative PVC ceiling tiles, which the faux tin tiles and faux brass tiles are made out of. I also show you how to measure decorative ceiling tiles for cutting, and share an installation technique so the cut edges look good. The method involves gluing (using construction glue) the PVC tile to a regular tile. The regular tile should extend about 1/3 of an inch beyond the cut PVC tile.

My best tip: When cutting PVC tiles, cut smaller rather than bigger than the panel opening because if the piece is too big for the opening, it won’t fit. You have 2/16 inch to 3/16 inch of room for error when you cut smaller than the size of the ceiling panel opening.
