Gathland State Park Run August 2024

I take a short drive on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon to Gathland State Park, south of Boonesboro, MD on RT 67.

80-degree temps, no humidity, puffy clouds, light breeze greeted me as I make my 1st visit to this state park, in southern Washington County.

Some very cool buildings on the former estate of war correspondent George Alfred Townsend (1841-1914), who wrote under the pen name "Gath" during the American Civil War. The battle of South Mountain occurred though 3 passes or gaps. Crampton's Gap where the former estate now a state park sits, was fought over by Union & Confederate forces during the Civil War in General Lee's attempt to invade the north.

Fun roads were next up for me & the Sky Redline. Twisty turns, downhill towards the valley floor. Arnoldtown Rd, & Picnic Woods Rd left me with a silly grin on my face. Top 5 road candidates for this season of LAC Films.

Back up RT 66 towards Smithburg, MD I make a detour for some ice cream
at Misty Meadows Creamery before heading home.
