Panasonic Model SE-5808, AM/FM Stereo with Turntable and 8-Track Recorder

The silver face of this stereo made it look nice on the outside, but on the inside was a mediocre combo stereo from 1978. The lady at the estate sale said "it works" -- she was right if she meant "it works as a doorstop!" Almost every part of this combo unit had problems, including:

(1) An eight track that moves, but makes no sound...
(2) An FM stereo radio that only works when in mono mode....
(3) A turntable that had not done any turning in years!

Originally, this was part of a line of Panasonic stereos sold with "Thruster" speakers and delivering a whopping 10 watts per channel. One cool thing about this stereo was the "Auto Eject" button on the 8-Track. Most eight tracks require you to manually remove the tape but this one kicks it out for you. But even the implementation here is flawed. As I noted in the video, many stereos would power up and down with the turntable. But as it turns out, the auto eject feature here just ejects on the track change, rather than something that would have been actually useful like ejecting and turning off the power at the end of the 4th track.

In the end, it was a fun father/son project to get to the bottom of all these problems, but I am not sure what to do with it. I tried selling it for $10 working at a garage sale playing records and eight tracks and no one was even interested!
