Описание к видео Nano red mangrove (Rhizophora mangle) freshwater tank after 7 months

This is my nano 5 gallon tank. It's been up and running since December 2019, a little over 7 months at the time of this video.

Originally, I wanted it as a shrimp and red mangrove (Rhizophora mangle) bonsai tank. Red mangrove is one of the few trees that can grow fully submerged in fresh water. I know people use them for saltwater tanks. However, I was not sure the mangroves would make it a fully freshwater tank, and I was not able to find any videos of them in freshwater after any amount of time.

I ordered red mangrove 8 pods for under $30. When I the arrived they all had 2 leaves. All the mangroves basically had no growth other then elongation of the stem for about 6 months. A couple months in I figured they might die, so I added several house plant cuttings, some veggie starts, and horsetail that is basically a weed where I live. The horsetail did not survive, they just sort of slowly died.

Most of the veggies died after a while in the tank, except for the sweet potato that is in the video. The problem I kept running into was water level. it either dried the roots or drowned the plant. So, I made a little raft out of foam and the sweet potato has been growing very slowly for months.

To the tank I added a baby beta, 5 Vietnamese white cloud minnows, some snails, shrimp, and a few aquatic plants.

When I set up a tank I try really hard to set it up like an ecosystem, so the water parameters stay balanced and I don't have to do a lot of water changes. Basically I add water as needed for evaporation and do a 25-50% water change every other months to keep minerals from concentrating due to evaporation. For a small tank it is really low maintenance.

I'm excited the mangrove tress are all putting on growth. It's great if they grow really slow, because I'm trying to bonsai them anyhow.
