What is a convection oven?

Does your oven have convection?

To find out look inside the oven on the back wall and if you see a fan on the back wall then you know your oven has the convection cooking capability.

Benefits of Convection cooking:
1. Airflow of the heated air is the number one benefit for convection cooking. What his does is it creates an even flow of air around all the food in the oven making for an even cook. If you do not have even air flow the top and bottom of your food may get over or under cooked based on how close the food was placed to the heating elements.
2. Two Main Types of convection: Quick bake convection and True Convection. These two names can vary some from manufacture to manufacture but the difference between the two are as follows.
Quick Bake convection - includes a fan inside the cavity of the oven which circulates the hot air that is already inside the oven.
True Convection - This convection also has a fan located on the back wall inside the cavity of the oven, but it adds an additional heating element inside the fan. Why this is so important is because this helps to heat the oven up quicker (we all hate long preheat times), it creates an additional heating source so the temperature stays even more consistent.
3. My favorite things about convection cooking is it allows you to cook more than one item at a time. If you want to cook multiple cookie sheets filled with cooking you don't have to worry about having one sheet cook faster than the others. The even air flow makes it so all are cooked at the same speed.

Challenges with convection cooking: It take some getting used to. You may need to cook your favorite recipe at a different temperature or for a different amount of time. This can be frustrating, but many of the newer convection ovens now come with what is called convection convert. This setting was made so that you can put in your normal temperature you have always used and it will convert it to the correct temperature.
