The brain behind the matrix:
3 chippies - LM3914, CD4017 and NE555 - tuned by a flock of potmeters and triggered at the frequency set by a 6-way rotary switch that toggles through an array of capacitors, all linked up by lots of colorful wires, trace an audio signal in a led matrix.

Little apple, little egg, as we say in Den Haag. Don't ask why, but we do: Appeltje eitje.
I guess it would translate to "easy as pie" or "Bob's your uncle".
