I am currently in PhpStorm viewing my REST API project. If you followed along using my Laravel Homestead tutorial, you and I are at the same place.

There is no git repository in our project. Let’s initialise one and perform our first commit. I am going to use the terminal, to initialise my repository and commit everything.

Let’s setup our database. By inspecting our Homestead.yml file, you can see we have a database named Homestead. Let’s see if the database has been created. We can do this by ssh’ing into our Vagrant Box.

I would like to change the name of the database and I would also like to have a test database for our tests to run against. We can do this by updating the Homestead.yml.

Now let’s reload and provision our Vagrant box.

This should have updated our database name and created our test database. Let’s take a look to see if that worked.

I like to use PhpStorm as my database client. So let’s setup a new connection. Let’s open the Database panel and add a database source.

Host: 192.168.10.15
User: Homestead
Password: secret

Let’s test the connection. If this is your first time in PhpStorm, you might have to download the Mysql drivers. Don’t worry, it is a really quick process. Once your connection has been successful we need to manage the shown schema’s. It might take a while to actually connect to the database. Let’s show our two databases.
