Unison's new "Mangler" distortion plugin is finally out now and I decided to get my hands on it and put it through it's paces in today's in studio session. I wanted to originally create a really gritty rap or rock song to go the harsher route when using a plugin like this but ultimately, creativity led me somewhere else.

I ended up making a softer and more gentle song yet still found some great use for Mangler. To me, this goes to show you don't have to be a rocker or some hardcore rapper who wants a gritty tone in order to use a plugin like this. Of course that is where it would shine. You'll see me add the plugin to a few instruments to create exactly that vibe. But when it came to using it as a vocal plugin, I used Mangler to add more presence and lift in addition to some spread and brightness in some areas. You'll really get an idea of what I mean when I say you can throw this on almost anything to give it a lot of character...
