At last! Welcome to the first video diary of 2019.

In late June, I take a trip the furthest south on the West Coast Mainline to the second biggest city/metropolitan area in the whole of the United Kingdom, and that is Birmingham and the West Midlands.

The journey starts by getting the 0602 from Paisley Gilmour Street to Glasgow Central before getting the 0710 TransPennine Express service to Manchester Airport as far as Preston. At Carstairs we pass the ONLY TransPennine service which is booked to call there northbound.
When we get into Preston, I do a half-hour session until 1017 when we board 221113 to Birmingham New Street. At Birmingham New Street, I meet-up with Owen Stevenson (Owenst 1234) then try and get lunch, we fail to do so and then quickly head back to New Street where we get a 323 to Lichfield City, due to timetable issues, the service is cancelled between Lichfield City and Lichfield Trent Valley. We then switch to another 323 to do a two-hour session at Lichfield Trent Valley. After getting another 323 back to Birmingham New Street, we finally get lunch at McDonald’s before heading to Birmingham Snow Hill on the Snow Hill Lines and Chiltern Mainline to London Marylebone where unfortunately the majority of services were cancelled or severely disrupted. I then get on 220003 operating the 1803 CrossCountry service to Edinburgh Waverley direct where we finish our day, there is a one hour delay which means there’s no Glasgow return.
