Welcome to the final lunchtime lecture in this first series, A Day in the Life of Salisbury Cathedral, c1500.

This illustrated lecture given by Professor William Renwick will describe in outline what this day in Salisbury Cathedral would have been like some 500 years ago, from the tolling of the bells for matins around 3 a.m. until the conclusion of evening worship with the antiphon to the Virgin in the Salve Chapel. Samples of the music will be discussed, and in particular attention will be paid to the system by which two ‘choirs’, chancel and chapel, co-ordinated their worship.

To show your appreciation of this lecture please text RSCM 5 to 70480 to donate £5.00 to support church music and musicians (or any amount up to £20). It only takes a moment. Alternatively, you can donate any amount via our website here. https://www.rscm.org.uk/donate

Series 2 will consider such diverse subjects as The Chapels Royal of Charles I and Henrietta Maria; Sir Richard Terry and the new music at Westminster Cathedral 1912 – 1922; a history of Choral Evensong on the Radio; and starts on 8th January with Geoffrey Webber talking about the role of Women Composers and the Church of England.
