This is my unboxing and first thoughts review of the new NexDock Touch. This is a device that can turn your phone into a laptop. A really interesting product type and I'm really interested to see what it can do for my productivity in the education workspace.
I'll be mostly using this along with samsung dex, but I'll also be using it as a second screen for my laptop whilst travelling and at school.

Think of all it can replace.
Power bank, usb hub, keyboard (mouse) card reader, extra screen.
Good value, package you're more likely to use.

Extra screen for your computer.
Thought laptops were replacing desktops. Or maybe tablets were replacing laptops… Now with this, phone can replace both of them and you can have a powerful machine on your desk for the serious stuff!


Continuity. Doing something on your phone, think it'd be easier with a keyboard, want dual windows. Just do it.

When finished 6 hour session, phone is fully charged!

The possibilities are there. But how does the reality march with the expectation?

What will make this completely compelling thought is when we can get a dex (or Android / chrome OS experience without having to plug in the phone. If you can pull out a shell lapdock which the IO is communicating to the phone by Bluetooth and the phone is just broadcasting a display signal back to it that would be really slick. It can't be that hard to do. We could still have the option of charging, or having the phone out as a small second screen or other input device. But without any thought you could open up your lapdock or your phone, depending on which task you wanted to do. There you are lapdock and Samsung. Please work on that together for the next generation of Dex devices.
