For the Deviants is a tribute to the deviant voice. Composer Ruben Naeff was inspired by the Faustian pact that his Dutch prime minister Mark Rutte recently made with the politicians Verhagen and Wilders, trading their ideals for power and silencing everyone with a different opinion. The prominent and widely respected intellectual Ab Klink was thrown out of his party because of his deviating thoughts. It is no coincidence that the instrumentation is the same as Stravinsky's L'Histoire du Soldat, in which a soldier sells his soul to the devil. In the end, the piece is about nothing more than the music itself, or maybe about enjoying playing music, not afraid of having a deviant sound.
