A Succession Certificate / Letter of Administration is an official document issued by the Civil Court of Law, that allows legal heirs to take ownership of a deceased person's assets and liabilities. 


This certificate is required when dealing with the transfer of property or other assets such as bank accounts, investments, insurance policies, etc., after the death of the owner who did not leave behind any Will.


The process of obtaining a Succession certificate involves taking the help of a legal professional because it requires representation at the Civil court. 


The application has to be submitted in the court and the entire process usually takes anywhere between 6-12 months depending on the complexity of assets and co-operation of family members.
