Denim and music have always been intertwined as forms of originality and self-expression. And Lee® has been there since the first tremors that triggered the tidal wave known as hip hop, a global force behind today’s fashion and musical world. From the late ‘70s through the ‘80s, Lee jeans and jackets became a uniform of the burgeoning scene surrounding New York.

Fifty years later, hip hop has expanded from a music genre to a global culture. Through this anniversary year, Lee will shine a light on its impact. Hand in hand with Black History Month, Lee sponsored the opening gala of Fresh, Fly, and Fabulous: Fifty Years of Hip Hop Style, an exhibition running from February through April by the Museum at FIT. Hosted by Tony Triumph, hear from exhibit co-curators Elizabeth Way and Elena Romero, Lee’s global director of men’s design, Sedgwick Cole, Jr., and others as they share stories of hip-hop fashion and its influence then and now.
