We drove from Bangalore to Gandikota, which is approx 290+ KMs from Bangalore and takes around 6-7 hrs to reach. Gandikota is a small village in the Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh that is known for its spectacular gorge formed by the river Penna. This nature’s architecture is known as the Hidden Grand Canyon of India.

Accommodation options are limited at this place. There is Haritha Resorts by Andhra Pradesh Tourism for stay, which requires a prior booking as they have only 10 cottages which are mostly booked in advance. Only Jio SIM works here. There is no entry fee to visit the fort or canyon.

Gandikota fort was built in the 13th century. Gandikota name is derived from the telugu words: gandi means gorge means a narrow valley with steep sides and a river running through it and Kota means Fort. Located in the west of Gandikota village, it is one of must visit in Gandikota. Madhavaraya Temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is believed to have been built during the reign of Sri Krishna Deva Raya of Vijayanagara Kingdom. This is the grandest structure in Gandikota or perhaps, in the entire region.
