I'm back on Assetto Corsa for more eye candy! This time, I pay tribute to Colin Chapman's 1967 Lotus 49 with an "exhibition run" at the Dutch Circuit Zandvoort.

Assetto's Corsa's Lotus 49 is incredibly rendered with some really amazing details - like beautifully-done road reflections on the double-layered yellow Lexan windscreens. Equipped with Ford's Cosworth DFV 3.0 litre V8 motor, its hard to press the throttle all the way without breaking loose those Firestone tyres - as fat as they are! The Lotus 49 represents Chapman's impeccable forward-thinking in evolving the state of the racing car. A minimalist's dream car, the Lotus 49 would introduce the Formula 1 world to many innovations over the course of its lifetime, including the first use of wings in 1968.

Legendary Graham Hill performed most of the testing duties on the 49. On its debut in 1967, Hill placed the car on pole. Hill led from the start, but retired later with a mechanical problem. Teammate Jim Clark, who's first laps in the car was over the Dutch Grand Prix weekend, started 8th, but made his way through the field and won the race. Clark would go on to win three more GPs in '67 despite of ongoing reliability "teething" issues for the Ford DFV motor. The following year, Hill would claim the World Championship title in the Lotus 49 with three GP wins. Clark, after winning the opening round, would sadly die during an F3 race in Germany.

Driving the famous #5 piloted by Jim Clark in 1967, I tried to treat the car like the priceless piece of motorsport history it is in real life - i.e. don't bend it! So I consider this an exhibition run. Fast enough to push it, with an eye for staying in control at all times.
