The U.S. prevalence of stroke increased between 2011 and 2022, according to data published last week by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Sarah Turnbaugh, a registered nurse at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, knows these medical events well. In 2016, she realized that the worst headache of her life turned out to be a sign that she had suffered a stroke. With care, she recovered, and today works with patients at UW Medicine’s Comprehensive Stroke Center.
